Ways to Decompress After a Panic Attack
Ways to decompress after a panic attack
Here are some ways you can bring your body back into a calm state after experiencing a panic attack:
~ alternate nostril breathing to regular nervous system and lower blood pressure + heart rate
~ get plenty of rest, you may feel like you’ve run a marathon after a panic attack
~ talk about your experience, with someone you feel safe with or your therapist
~ keep lighting dim if its night time
~ be kind to yourself & tend to yourself over the next 24 hours
~ avoid stimulating activities and substances {screens, crowds, noise, caffeine, alcohol and other drugs}
~ slow walk in nature, connecting back to yourself and your surroundings
~ sip some chamomile tea, sleepy tea or a hot cocoa
~ get grounded with meditation, particularly with a yoga nidra
~ take a nice hot shower or bath, hot water can promote relaxation
When in extreme states of stress, anxiety or panic, remind yourself that no one ever died from anxiety. Even though you may feel like you’re dying, remind yourself you are safe in your body and you body is simply responding appropriately to a perceived threat {even when there isn’t one}
🖤 Be gentle with yourself afterwards & ask others around you to do the same
