12 Ways to Upgrade Your Health at No Cost

Having a healthy lifestyle doesn’t have to break the bank!

“It’s too expensive to be healthy” “I can’t afford to look after myself”

Sound familiar? Here are some ways you can make changes to your overall wellbeing at NO COST!

  1. Regular sleep patterns: go to bed and wake up at the same time every day. This supports your body’s carcadium rhythms and will increase the likelihood of better quality sleep.

  2. Meditation: download the Insight Timer app and commit to a daily 5-10 minute guided meditation. Meditation lowers blood pressure, lower heart rate and regulates the nervous system. Lower stress = lower inflammation

  3. Qi gong or yoga classes via YouTube: there’s so many free classes online these days - get your body moving to support cardiovascular health, improve flexibility + strength

  4. Start walking or running: see point 3 benefits

  5. Daily sunshine: sunshine provides us with vitamin D. Low levels of vitamin D have been found to be linked with increase of depression + anxiety symptoms

  6. Spend conscious quality time with loved ones: key word being conscious. Put your phone away, connect, share a hug, laugh - loneliness is correlated with increase risk of poor mental health outcomes

  7. Schedule in ‘no screen’ time: switch off and slow down. Constantly being stimulated by notifications, emails and TikTok videos can disregulate our nervous systems and make us feel a sense of ‘burn out’

  8. Earthing: bare foot on grass or sand is known to decrease inflammation in the body

  9. Garden or nature hike: immerse yourself in nature to increase calmness, feeling grounded, lower stress and improve mood

  10. Practise breathing techniques: such as alternate nostril breathing to slow heart rate, lower blood pressure and shift living from sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight) into parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest)

  11. Cold therapy: have a cold shower, swim in the ocean all year round or putting your face in an ice water bowl for 10 seconds - cold exposure may decrease inflammation, support muscle recovery, prevent a panic attack and increase immune function

  12. Have a journal or affirmation practice: having a sacred practice where you connect to yourself gives you the opportunity to reflect, reset, decompress and self soothe.

Start with incorporating one healthy habit each month and work your way up to building a lifestyle that makes you feel GOOD and THRIVE (without breaking the bank!)
