Coming Home to Yourself

Coming home to yourself can be a journey after a big life transition, grief, loss, a dark night of the soul or even just feeling lost for a period of time

Coming home to yourself is creating the feeling of safety within your body. It’s creating trust within yourself. It’s building a strong backbone. It’s planting your feet in the ground. It’s shedding the layers and letting go of what is no longer in alignment with your authentic self.

Here are some ways to come home to yourself:

~ Write a list of things that make you feel like you : hobbies, joyful activities, people, places, anything that makes you feel at home

~ Tap into prayer : or if you’re not religious, meditate. Being in quiet reflection can sometimes gives us all the answers we need

~ Bring it back to basics : eat whole foods, drink plenty of good quality water, daily movement and 8-9 hours sleep a night

~ Invest in a new exercise/movement program : starting at a new gym, yoga studio or dance class can re-spark joy, build confidence, give opportunity to learn a new skill and get your body moving

~ Daily journal practice : to support processing emotions

~ Take a break from unhelpful habits : things like excessive alcohol consumption, substance use, binge eating, excessive spending - now is the time to break away from self sabotage

~ Love + let go : of people and things that no longer contribute to your future self. If it is not aligned with what you’re wanting to become, love and let go

~ Build up your internal validation : external validation from others or materialistic things is not sustainable

~ Cultivate morning and evening rituals : we thrive off routine, especially ones that make us feel good and add value to our lives

~ Enjoy sacred solitude : meaning, enjoy the beauty of being in your own company, doing your own thing. Make this time sacred and a time to tap into self care and things you love

~ Be vulnerable to people you love + trust : talk to them about what’s going on for you - you’ll feel lighter and more loved
